I think there are cameras in my home

Concealed cameras can be placed inside everyday objects and are designed to be invisible. If you suspect visual surveillance, you are not being paranoid. This page explains where cameras are hidden and what professional detection involves.

// Key steps at a glance
  1. Do not remove or cover anything you suspect. Leave it in place.
  2. Note the location and when you first had the suspicion.
  3. Do not discuss your suspicion inside the property.
  4. Move to a safe location before contacting Safe Sweep.
  5. Book a professional sweep. Consumer apps cannot detect concealed cameras.

// Note - Covering or removing a hidden camera may alert your abuser and destroy evidence. Leave it exactly as found.

// 01 - Where They Are Hidden

Common concealment locations

Abusers typically look for coverage of main living areas, bedrooms, or bathrooms. Common concealment objects include smoke detectors, USB chargers, alarm clocks, picture frames, air purifiers, and smart speakers. A pinhole lens at 2mm is invisible from across a room — professional optical detection equipment is the only reliable way to find these.

Smoke detectors and alarms

Ceiling-mounted and universally present in homes. A smoke detector with a camera has an unobstructed view of the entire room. These are among the most common concealment objects in domestic surveillance.

USB chargers and power adaptors

Commercially available plug-in chargers containing cameras look identical to standard adaptors. They record continuously while plugged in and are commonly placed in bedrooms and living areas near power points.

Clocks, frames, and ornaments

Everyday objects that face into the room naturally. Clock radios, alarm clocks, and photo frames are sold commercially as camera housings. The lens is typically a 1-3mm pinhole invisible to the naked eye at normal viewing distance.

Air purifiers and smart devices

Larger objects provide more space for components. Smart speakers and hubs your abuser installed may also have legitimate microphone and camera access via their app account.

// 02 - What You Cannot Check Yourself

The limits of self-inspection

A visual check of your home can identify out-of-place objects or things that have moved. But a pinhole lens at 2mm is invisible across a room. A camera inside your own smoke alarm looks identical to the real thing. And nothing you can check manually will find an audio device, RF transmitter, or powered-off recording device.

// What professional detection finds

Safe Sweep uses optical lens detection equipment that identifies lens reflections invisible to the naked eye. Thermal imaging reveals devices generating heat. Non-Linear Junction Detection finds electronic components including powered-off devices regardless of how they are concealed.

// 03 - Signs Your Home May Be Under Visual Surveillance

Behavioural indicators

If your partner comments on what you were wearing at home, knows who visited, references private conversations, or makes remarks about your home routine that require visual knowledge - take it seriously.

Behavioural signs

// What they may reveal

Commenting on clothing worn at home. Knowing who visited. Referencing conversations held inside. Making remarks about your routine requiring visual knowledge of the property.

Physical signs

// What to look for

Objects moved or repositioned. Unfamiliar objects that have appeared. Existing objects that look slightly different. Wiring that does not belong.
