Bug sweeping services across Australia

A bug sweep is a systematic technical inspection of a space, a vehicle or a device to find covert surveillance equipment. We use the same methodology applied in government and corporate environments, and we tell you plainly what we find.

// What a sweep covers
  • Radio frequency analysis from 10 MHz to 12 GHz, covering transmitting bugs, wireless cameras and cellular devices.
  • Non linear junction detection which finds devices that are switched off and emitting nothing.
  • Optical lens detection which finds camera lenses under two millimetres across.
  • Thermal imaging which reveals powered devices concealed inside walls, fittings and objects.
  • Written technical report recording scope, method, areas cleared and any findings.

What bug sweeping actually involves

A professional sweep is not someone walking around with a handheld detector from an online store. It is a layered technical process, because no single method finds everything.

A transmitting device is found by radio frequency analysis. A device that only records to internal memory emits nothing, so it is found by non linear junction detection, which identifies the semiconductors inside it regardless of whether it has power. A camera lens is found optically. A device drawing mains power inside a wall cavity is found thermally.

Each method covers what the others miss. Running all of them, in a defined order, across a defined scope, is what separates a professional sweep from a look around.

What we find most often

Cameras in everyday objects

// Visual

Smoke detectors, USB chargers, power outlets, clocks, speakers and air purifiers are all sold with working cameras inside them. They function exactly as the real product does.

Audio recorders and transmitters

// Audio

Devices that either stream audio live over the mobile network or record to internal storage for later collection. The recording type emits nothing while running.

Vehicle trackers

// Location

Magnetic battery units that last weeks, hardwired units that run indefinitely, and Bluetooth tags dropped into a bag or under a seat.

Compromised devices

// Digital

Phones and computers with monitoring software installed, and accounts still sharing location or backing up to somebody else's cloud.

Who books a sweep

The people who contact us fall into a few clear groups. Individuals concerned about their home, their car or their privacy. Businesses where commercially sensitive information appears to be leaving the building. Executives and high profile individuals whose residences and vehicles carry sensitive conversation. Event organisers securing a venue before proceedings. Government and defence requiring inspection to a documented standard.

We also work extensively with people experiencing domestic and family violence, where surveillance is used as a tool of coercive control, and with the services and legal teams supporting them.

What it costs and how long it takes

Cost depends on the size of the space, the number of rooms and vehicles in scope, and whether documentation is required to evidentiary standard. A residential sweep typically runs two to four hours. Commercial premises and multi room engagements are scoped individually.

We confirm the scope and the price before we attend. There are no call out surprises, and we do not sell detection equipment or ongoing contracts you do not need.

// FAQ

Common questions

How much does a bug sweep cost in Australia?
Cost depends on the number of rooms, vehicles and devices in scope and whether court ready documentation is required. We quote a fixed price before attending, so there are no surprises. Call 02 8551 8883 for a scoped quote.
Can I just use a bug detector app or a cheap RF detector?
No. Phone apps cannot detect a device that is switched off, a camera lens, or anything outside Bluetooth range. Cheap RF detectors produce constant false positives from normal household electronics and miss anything not actively transmitting. Professional detection requires several different technologies used together.
Will the person who planted the device know I had a sweep?
Not from us. We attend in unmarked vehicles and plain clothing, and we can time attendance around your circumstances. If we find a device, we document it in place before anything is moved, and we advise you before taking any action that might alert them.
Do you cover all of Australia?
Yes. We operate across every state and territory, including regional deployment. Travel is quoted transparently as part of the scope.
What happens if you find nothing?
You receive a written report confirming the areas swept, the methods used and a clear result. A clean sweep is a valid and common outcome, and for most clients the certainty is the point.
