I think there is a tracker on my car

GPS tracking devices can be attached to a vehicle in seconds and run for weeks on battery. If your partner or ex seems to know your movements, your vehicle may be compromised.

// Key steps at a glance
  1. Do not physically search your vehicle yourself. You are unlikely to find a well-placed device, and disturbing it may alert your abuser.
  2. Download AirGuard (free, iOS and Android) to scan for Bluetooth trackers as an immediate first step.
  3. Do not change your driving routine until a professional sweep is completed.
  4. Move to a safe location before contacting Safe Sweep.
  5. Book a professional vehicle sweep covering both Bluetooth and hardwired GPS devices.

// Note - A GPS tracker that goes offline unexpectedly may alert your abuser. Do not remove anything you find without professional guidance.

// 01 - Types of Vehicle Trackers

What may be on your car

Bluetooth trackers

// AirTag, Tile, SmartTag

Small, coin or card-sized. Placed inside the vehicle, under seats, in the boot, or inside wheel arches. Continuously broadcast a Bluetooth signal. Can be detected by the AirGuard app as a first step.

GPS/GSM trackers

// Hardwired and battery-powered

Reports location via the mobile network. Can be magnetic and battery-powered or hardwired to vehicle power. Emits no Bluetooth signal - will not appear on any app. Requires professional RF sweep equipment to detect.

World First - Coming Soon

BlackGrid Drift

BlackGrid Drift is a dedicated hardware device that passively scans for Bluetooth trackers independently of your phone - meaning a compromised phone cannot interfere with the detection layer. It builds a log of signals moving with you over time and alerts you silently when the same unknown device appears across multiple locations.

The world's first passive tracker detection device built specifically for domestic violence victims.

// 02 - Where Trackers Are Placed

Common placement locations

01 //

Undercarriage and chassis

The most common location for magnetic GPS trackers. Flat surfaces on the underside away from moving parts. Not visible during a normal visual inspection of the exterior.

02 //

Wheel arches and bumpers

Accessible from outside without opening doors. Magnetic devices attach easily inside wheel arches or behind bumpers.

03 //

Interior - under seats and boot

Battery-powered Bluetooth trackers such as AirTags are small enough to slide under a seat, into a seat pocket, or inside boot lining.

04 //

OBD port and engine bay

The OBD diagnostic port under the dashboard accepts plug-in trackers drawing power directly from the vehicle. The engine bay also provides accessible surface area for magnetic devices.

// 03 - Signs Your Movements Are Being Tracked

Behavioural indicators

Your partner or ex knowing where you have been without being told. Arriving at locations you did not share with them. Timing their contact with your movements. Making comments about your routine that require location knowledge.

Any of these patterns - especially if consistent and unexplained - are sufficient reason to get a professional sweep of your vehicle.
