Secure facility sweeps

Controlled areas are only as secure as the last time they were verified. Accreditation establishes how a space is built and operated. Inspection establishes what is actually in it today.

// Facility inspection
  • Full technical sweep across RF, NLJD, optical, thermal and physical inspection.
  • Building services included cable runs, ceiling voids, floor boxes, HVAC and comms infrastructure.
  • Baseline and periodic establishing a reference position then verifying against it.
  • Post works inspection after any contractor access, fitout or maintenance.
  • Formal written reporting to support accreditation and assurance processes.

Accreditation and inspection are different things

Accreditation assesses how a space is constructed, shielded, accessed and operated. It is largely a design and procedure question, assessed at a point in time and reviewed periodically.

Inspection asks a narrower and more immediate question: is there anything in this room right now that should not be here. A space can be fully accredited and still contain a device, because accreditation governs the envelope and the procedures, not the contents on a given Tuesday.

The contractor access problem

The highest risk period for any controlled space is not normal operation. It is works. Fitout, maintenance, cabling, HVAC servicing, AV installation and building upgrades all put people with tools and time into spaces that are otherwise tightly controlled.

Those people are usually escorted and usually legitimate. But the access is real, the duration is long, and the work itself involves opening exactly the cavities, voids and service runs where a device would be placed.

Post works inspection is the single highest value sweep in a facility cycle. It verifies that the space you handed to contractors is the space you got back.

What we inspect beyond the room

A sweep limited to the visible room misses the infrastructure that runs through it. Our scope covers ceiling voids and access panels, floor boxes and underfloor runs, cable trays and comms infrastructure, HVAC ducting and plant serving the space, AV racks and equipment cabinets, and power distribution serving the area.

Where the facility has adjacent or shared services, we assess what that adjacency means and inspect accordingly, because a device does not have to be inside the room to hear it.

Common questions

How often should a secure facility be swept?
It depends on the classification and activity level. A common pattern is an annual baseline with periodic sweeps between, plus mandatory post works inspection after any contractor access.
Do you inspect building services as well as the room?
Yes. Ceiling voids, floor boxes, cable runs, HVAC, AV racks and power distribution are all within scope, because a device serving the room does not have to be inside its walls.
Can you attend after contractor works?
Yes, and we recommend it. Post works inspection is the highest value sweep in a facility cycle because works involve exactly the access and cavities a device would exploit.
What is your NCAGE code?
Safe Sweep operates under NATO Commercial and Government Entity code Z1NK9.
