Information is leaving. Find out how.

When confidential information appears outside the organisation, there are two possible explanations. A person is passing it, or a device is capturing it. A technical sweep eliminates one of those with certainty, which is the fastest way to focus an investigation.

// How we support an investigation
  • Establish or exclude a technical cause so the investigation is not chasing the wrong explanation.
  • Sweep the rooms where the information was discussed not just the executive floor.
  • Evidentiary documentation with chain of custody if the matter becomes legal.
  • Coordinate with legal and HR reporting only to the people you nominate.
  • Discreet attendance so the investigation is not disclosed by our presence.

Eliminate the technical explanation first

Most internal leak investigations begin by looking at people. Access logs, email, who was in the room, who had motive. That is reasonable, and it is often where the answer is. But it is slow, corrosive to trust, and if the actual cause is a device in the ceiling, it never finds it.

A sweep is fast and definitive in one direction. If we find a device, the investigation changes completely and you have physical evidence. If we find nothing, you have excluded an entire category of explanation and can focus entirely on people and process, knowing the rooms are clean.

Scoping a leak sweep properly

The common mistake is sweeping the wrong rooms. People assume the boardroom, when the information was actually discussed in a manager's office, a car on the way to a site, or a meeting room nobody thinks of as sensitive.

We scope from the information itself. What exactly got out, where was it discussed, who was present, and over what period. That maps to a set of physical spaces, vehicles and devices, and those are what we sweep. It is a different and usually wider footprint than the assumed one.

// 03

Keeping the investigation confidential

If a leak investigation becomes known internally, the behaviour you are trying to observe changes immediately. Our attendance is planned so it does not signal anything: after hours where possible, unmarked, and presented as routine facilities or AV work if anyone asks.

Reporting goes only to the individuals you nominate. We do not copy in general security or facilities distribution lists, and we do not retain investigation detail beyond the engagement.

// FAQ

Common questions

Can you tell us who planted a device if you find one?
Not directly, but a device carries useful investigative signal. Its type, capability, power source, installation method and placement all narrow the field considerably, particularly around who had the access and time required to fit it.
Should we tell staff we are investigating a leak?
That is your call and usually a legal and HR question rather than a technical one. From our side, the sweep can be conducted without anyone on site knowing its purpose.
What if the leak is a person rather than a device?
Then the sweep tells you that quickly, which is valuable. Excluding a technical cause with certainty lets you commit the investigation to people and process without the nagging possibility that you missed something in the room.
Can findings be used in legal proceedings?
Yes. Where a device is recovered we document to evidentiary standard with chain of custody, photographs and technical identification, prepared so it holds up if the matter goes to court or to police.

Discuss a leak investigation

Tell us what got out and where it was discussed. We will scope the technical side and attend discreetly.
